We Have Not Because We Ask Not

James 4:2 tells us “We have not because we ask not“. God does not respond to our prayers if we are unwilling to do our part. God does not encourage us to expect something for nothing.  We need to watch and pray; obey and pray, knowing that God will answer our prayers for our best good… even if that means withholding for our best interest.

Throughout the Bible, God’s promises are made under varying circumstances. His promises provide assistance and blessings for our life, here and how, as well as for our eternal future. He want us to know there is no need so great or problem so big He cannot provide.  God’s word most important tells us specifically to hold fast to God’s promises. Our most important needs are not for material things, but for spiritual guidance and Christ-like character.
